You are song, to me
You are song, to me marks the beginning of a new series of works that center trans-masculine experience in storytelling and collaborations. Together with artist, poet, and performer Romeo Roxmann Gatt, Kaler explores states of suspension through underwater movement and work with the voice following a testosterone induced voice break. The video piece blurs text, voice, and song in an intimate exchange between the two protagonists and emphasizes the act of viewing, examining the staging and embodiment of intimacy and belonging beyond fetishization and spectacle.
Tanzquartier Wien presents the work in a site-specific video installation and with performative activations by Ian Kaler and Romeo Roxmann Gatt at the opening and closing events. You are song, to me takes place in dialogue with OIL, a spatial experiment by Isabel Lewis & Dirk Bell.

RAW PRACTICE: SYNAESTHETIX
RAW PRACTICE is a collaborative live practice format exploring the connections between movement practice, live music (rRoxymore) and live visuals/video design (Dafne Narvaez Berlfein), and lighting design.
In the frame of Synaesthetix #2, the format will be adapted site-specifically for Zirka Munich. Kaler’s choreographic approach blending live performance, dance, video installation, and film, emerges through the collaboration and interplay with rRoxymore and Narvaez Berlfein. Together the trio generates an immersive choreo-cinematographic experience for the audience as part of this event combining dance, performance, concert, DJ set, media art and club night.

The Growing Edge (Cinematography: Diara Sow)
Blurring the lines of choreography and storytelling, THE GROWING EDGE explores the theatrical and staged, the fictional and dreamlike in autobiography, reflecting on the depiction of lived queer and trans experience as personal and political narrative. Embedded in an eerie soundtrack by music producer rRoxymore, The Growing Edge develops a tender and emphatic dialogue and dance between past and present memories, timelines and experiences.

AND FOR THE TIME BEING (Photo: Dieter Hartwig)
He rides through the forest at a comfortable, even pace. One he is free to set and keen not to waste. Nervous at first, but assured now by the unseen presence around him, unseen, but surely felt.
